Hi, we’re Sunny and Ashleigh, the fiery redhead and fedora-rocking duo behind the new book Rare Breed: A Guide to Success for the Defiant, Dangerous and Different (HarperCollins 2019). Our book explores seven so-called “vices” society condemns as counterintuitive to success—Rebellious, Audacious, Obsessed, Hot-Blooded, Weird, Hypnotic, Emotional—and reframes them as virtues that lead to breakout success.
“When Sunny and Ashleigh walk into a room, the air changes. They’ve got an undeniable magic. They’ll give you goosebumps. And, you want in.”
We’re also hosts of a brazen new YouTube series featuring one-of-a-kind interviews with Rare Breeds like audacious Charlamagne Tha God, hot-blooded beauty influencer Bretman Rock, and obsessed YouTube star Dodie.
This site, our book, and our show, are focused on one thing — awakening the parts of yourself you’ve made invisible because everyone told you success was only attainable if you ground down your prickly points, so you would in that awful phrase, “fit in.”
“Mark our words, Rare Breed is one of the best books of the year.”
After dropping out of college together in our early twenties, we started Motto, a ruckus-making branding agency with just $250 against a sea of doubt. We were told we were “too young, too broke, too inexperience, too female” to succeed in a world where sixtyish admen made the rules. Fifteen years later, high on creative spirit and rule-breaking, the press, media, and beloved brands like Google, 20th Century Fox, Hershey’s, The NFL, and more, seek us out for our audacious point of view on how to tap into the “rare breed” within.
“We run a huge Summit that brings people from all over the world. (When you’re choosing speakers, every person on stage is either a boon or burden to your cred.) Sunny and Ashleigh received the highest speaker rankings for any event. They change people’s lives.”

We’ve graced lists such as GDUSA’s Top 25 People to Watch, DMN, and Inc. 30 Under 30 America’s Coolest Young Entrepreneurs. We were also the youngest women ever to win the Count Me In Make Mine a Million $ Business Award.
In true Rare Breed fashion, we believe in the power of going against conventional thinking, punching the status quo with brass knuckles, and illuminating the pieces of ourselves that are uniquely our own.
